Government Model Degree College Padder, over a period of time, has emerged as a promising and fast-developing institution of higher learning in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Established in 2018, the college began its academic journey with a modest start under the initiative of the Higher Education Department, J&K Government, to bring higher education to the remote and hilly regions of District Kishtwar. At present, the college is located in the picturesque and serene valley of Padder, known for its rich cultural heritage, sapphire mines, and natural beauty. The college caters to students from various far-flung villages of Padder and adjoining areas, ensuring access to quality education at their doorstep. The college offers quality infrastructure designed to meet the diverse educational needs of its students. It has well-equipped classrooms, a seminar hall for academic discussions, and a well-stocked library with a wide range of books, journals, and newspapers. Currently, the college offers three main streams — Science, Humanities, and Commerce — and is in the process of introducing several skill-based and vocational courses under the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to promote employability and holistic development. The academic programs at GDC Padder are designed to be student-oriented, flexible, and interdisciplinary, encouraging students to choose subjects that align with their interests and career goals. Given Padder’s remote yet resource-rich setting, the college also aims to promote linkages with local industries, tourism, and environmental conservation sectors, thereby enhancing the skill capabilities of students and improving their employability. The college takes pride in its dedicated and experienced faculty comprising Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, and PTI, who are committed to nurturing young minds and contributing to the educational advancement of Padder, Kishtwar.
